One Track Mind

63. The state of female athlete health & performance

Sam Robertson, David Joyce & Jess Cunningham Season 8 Episode 63

Anterior cruciate ligament injury, menstrual cycle tracking, and relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (or RED-S). Whilst there is still so much more to be done, the increase in public awareness of these terms is at least a small sign that female athletes are starting to get the attention they deserve in terms of research and funding. But what exactly is female athlete health and performance? How does it differ from males?  And what are the current flaws and opportunities in the provision of medical and performance services to female athletes?

On this episode of One Track Mind, David and Sam sit down with Jess Cunningham. An experienced women's health physiotherapist, Jess is also the co-founder of Optima Female Performance and the author of 'POP - When sport brings us to our knees', a book sharing first-hand athlete experiences dealing with anterior cruciate ligament injury.
